Rough sketches helped me become familiar with the graphical nature of a phone case.

 

Pattern development took place in direct comparison to the “microdot” and hex patterns seen elsewhere in UAG. A dot or soft hex pattern with more nuance and more movement felt appropriate for a more refined interpretation for [U].

As a follow up to the initial two designs, UAG commissioned a third case based on my “patchwork” sketches. I wanted to play with highlights and linework through material thickness, so I created discrete studies on the case back.
