brief: Design and launch elevated, long-lasting lunch kits for on-the-go professionals

I teamed up with Inka founder, Leah Naomi, to build a product line inspired by a healthy and sustainable lunchtime. In response to single-use grocery bags and unreliable takeout boxes, we developed an ecosystem of leak-free food containers, travel-optimized cutlery, and a structured lunch bag.

IMMERSION

We began with by exploring through the broad interactions of the lunch bag and containers. Competitive products and product mockups were perfect for co-creation sessions with potential users. We learned about portion size, carrying style, commuting worries, and hopes for meal-prepping!

LUNCH BAG

We understood the bag needed to be stylish enough to be carried over the shoulder and compact enough to be smoothly slid in a backpack. How do users access the interior? What should the user see when the lid opens? How are “extras” managed?

For form and experience inspiration, we looked to: classic lunch motifs like milk cartons, celebrations of simple ingredients, and taking joy in gathering for food, like picnicking.

CONTAINERS

Containers needed to be modular, stackable, visually “clean”. The cutlery (and sauce pot) should pack neatly in the food containers, so dirty utensils could be transported back home without mess.

Technical Development

Early on, we engaged with a local leather craftsmen to begin developing & troubleshooting the pattern with the intended materials. In parallel, we brought on an engineer to fine tune the food containers and their water-tight seal.
